Advocacy Question:
Will creating and distributing anti-bullying flyers to Carmel Clay School families increase bullying awareness and improve school safety? Advocacy Focus Statement: Bullying is a major school safety concern for all Carmel Clay School families. Access to an anti-bullying information designed specifically for families in the CCS District will increase awareness and decrease the amount of bullying that takes place in school. The flyer created for CCS students and families contains information related to bullying and links to resources that provide support and additional information. The flyer can be seen by clicking the Insight Statements tab above . How did I accomplish this goal? After my research was complete, I interviewed a Carmel Clay student. From that interview, I learned that students need physical information they can keep and read on their own time, or when they need it. Students seem to be uninterested in speeches and presentations. They also want a way to report information anonymously. From this information, I decided to create a take-home flyer that helps students identify bullying, effects of bullying, and where to report bullying. This information can be kept at home, in lockers, or in backpacks. The flyers will also help raise awareness for teachers and parents. After the flyer was complete, I contact the Carmel Clay School board and asked for permission to distribute the flyer to all CCS students. As a concerned member of my community, it is my responsibility to be a leader. By leading, many will follow and create lasting change. |
